Tanning Damage Policy

The Tannery Shop is a commercial tannery. although we try our best, minor damage sometimes occurs.

In the first stages of tanning if we notice that one of your skins is developing a problem (hair slippage, excessive matting etc… ) we will make an effort to contact you immediately. We will describe the damage to you and then you can decide if you want to continue to tan the skin at your own risk or discard it. If we cannot locate you immediately we will freeze the skin until we have contacted you and a mutual decision has been reached.

Be aware that during the tanning process your hides will be subjected to harsh chemicals such as, Brighter, bleach, blood out, and acid. Because of the chemical process and subjecting the hide to re-hydration after this process, there may be some shrinkage sometimes up to 4 inches is common. This happens on air dried hides more than others, such as, beaver, coyotes and others put up for resale. All tanning is done at your risk!
